On behalf of the Teams, Team Captains, Mentors, and Planning Committee, of Relay For Life of Second Life 2008, I extend a heartfelt and soul shaking thank you to the residents of Second Life for your support and participation.

Thank you so very much for making our cause your cause. Thank you for reaching out to us with arms of support and friendship. Thank you for your understanding and sense of humor as we bumped our way down the fundraising path. Thank youfor your tolerance of our growing pains.

Thanks to you, Relay For Life of Second Life 2008, has ended an outstanding season. You were the punch in our swing at cancer so - please join us in our shout of joy TAKE THAT CANCER!

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life® began in May 1985 when a colorectal surgeon ran around a track in Tacoma, Washington, for 24 hours, raising $27,000 to support the American Cancer Society. Today Relay For Life® is held in more than 4,600 communities in the United States and in 23 countries across the globe which has raised more than $1.5 billion to help the Society accelerate the progress against cancer by saving lives, helping those touched by cancer, and empowering people to fight back against this disease.

Relay For Life® is coming back to Second Life® for a fourth consecutive year. In 2007 Second Life® Relay for Life® raised more than $118,000 and attracted more than 1,700 participants to this unique virtual walkathon event. Themed ‘Quest For a Cure’, more than 75 volunteer builders lined the virtual track with interactive 3-D displays inspired by action and adventure stories.  Avatars encountered opportunities to have fun along the way while raising awareness and raising vital funds.  Lighting virtual luminaries, personalizing your avatar with an incredible variety of purple accessories, and participating in events such as theme parties, dance-a-thons, sky diving, roller coaster rides, jail-n-bail, snail races and treasure hunts.

There is no other Relay like it, it is truly out of this world.
