It's about being a community that takes up the fight.
Relay For Life is a time for Dearborn to come together as a community to Celebrate our survivors, Remember those we have lost to cancer, and to Fight Back against a diseases that takes too much from too many of us. As always, our community did a great job coming together in 2008!
We honored 101 survivors and 81 caregivers during our opening lap and our Survivor & Caregiver Reception. Hundreds of people came out for the day to be a part of our event. We reached out to hundreds more people in our community prior to Relay through speaking engagements, local cable shows, local newspapers and other avenues. Our 47 teams, comprised of over 600 registered participants, combined to raise over $117,400, with more to come.
The funds raised through our Relay For Life will help the American Cancer Society work toward their mission of eliminating cancer as a major health issue and will support much-needed services in our community. Thanks in part to the donations from Relay For Life and other events, the Society is saving lives, helping those touched by cancer, and empowering people to fight this disease all over the world and right here in Dearborn.
Please consider being involved in our 2009 Relay For Life of Dearborn! We would love to have you on our Planning Committee, as a team captain or as part of a team. For information, please contact Anna Agustin at 248.663.3411 or annalisa.agustin@cancer.org.

Dearborn, Make MI Air Smokefree!
Hey Dearborn businesses, at our Relay we recognized 35 Dearborn businesses that are Smokefree. Our Dearborn bd's mongolian barbeque pledged to become Smokefree starting on our May 3 Relay For Life date! We are hoping more Dearborn businesses will join them. This initiative is being supported by Mayor Jack O'Reilly and State Representative Gino Polidori.
If your business is currently Smokefree or is willing to become Smokefree, please email rfldearborn@gmail.com. Let's have Dearborn ahead of the rest of the State, and ahead of the Senate, and leading the charge for a Smokefree Michigan!

The final results are in for the 2007 Relay For Life of Dearborn: We raised $119,358! That was more than $50,000 over our goal and a 106% increase over 2006.
Our Relay was also honored by the American Cancer Society with several Great Lakes Division and National awards (see more below). Most importantly we reached an amazing number of people and, hopefully, made a difference in their lives by giving them a way to fight back. Awesome job, Dearborn!
